Tips on Preparing for Your Coursework
Fund Due Diligence
For an effective and efficient collaboration within your group, we recommend doing the following from the outset:
- Read the coursework guidance and ask Temple Fennell and Philip Walker questions where you are unsure.
- Establish clear roles and responsibilities within the group.
- Have an honest conversation about how much time each group member can dedicate each week to the coursework and how the workload is best divided.
- Schedule frequent check-ins with the group and put them in the calendar!
- Set up shared working documents, such as a Google Sheet or Doc.
- Agree how you will communicate as a group. Groups in the past have found it useful to create a group chat.
* Remember: Marietta is here to support you - reach out!
Investment Policy Statement (IPS) & Listening Tour
- Start early and plan your individual work for the coming months.
- Plan meetings with your family, family office and wealth managers well in advance to collate information about where the wealth is invested, how decisions are made, and other questions included in the 'Listening Tour' guidelines.
- Decide who the audience for your IPS is and what you wish to communicate with it. Format does not matter at this stage — feel free to brainstorm and experiment.
- You will have a monthly/bi-monthly check-in call with your IPS pod group, as well as a mentor and CSP staff, to discuss your progress, where you might feel stuck, where you want advice and peer support. Use this opportunity to ask your peers and openly share questions you might have.
- Use the faculty as a resource! Contact your IPS mentor or another member of the core faculty for advice if you are stuck or want feedback on your draft.
- Remember: There is no perfect IPS. Your IPS is a living document. The sooner you start putting pen to paper and capturing your thoughts, the better the input you can have from others.
